What is Pierella Rainforest Reclamation Project about?
Who are we?
What are we doing?
Why are we doing this?
- Who are we? We are scientists, business people, students – everyday people – who share a concern for the damage done to the planet.
- We are a 100% volunteer, tax deductible organization raising money to reforest developed land in Costa Rica, turning it back into rainforest. This is the best place on the planet to do this.
- Your donation goes only to the mission, not to expensive office buildings, highly paid officials or lavish expense accounts.
- We study the reclamation process, continuously increasing our knowledge of the best methods to reclaim the land.
- Our research and education programs share this knowledge with the world, teaching the next generation to be the stewards and scientists who follow.
What are we doing?
- Your donation helps reforest developed land, which will be cleared of invasive species, then replanted with native plants and trees.
- There are numerous parcels of land which are prime candidates for this reclamation.
- Progress will be monitored and studied to ensure that the reclamation produces the expected ‘Butterfly Effects.’
- The land will be set in trust, ensuring it remains rainforest forever. If PRFRP ever closes its doors, the rainforest will be donated to the Costa Rican National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC).
Why are we doing this?
- To help undo some of the damage done to our planet and we need
your help. - Rainforest reclamation captures carbon and produces oxygen, helping to slow climate change which affects us all.
- Reclaiming rainforest ensures that this land continues to hold the largest animal and plant biodiversity in the world.
- Rainforests are not only the lungs of the planet, they are also its pharmacy, providing the source of one-fourth of today’s medicines.
- 70 percent of the plants found to have anticancer properties are found only in the rainforest.
- The plant species you help save, might be the one that saves your life.
